Bag in the Dog FoodDog Food | Brand : Diamond Naturals | Pet Type : Dog | ..
In Feb. I was out of my usual food, which is Verus Opticoat. I decided to run up to the the local Tractor Supply to grab something just to feed them until I got the Verus. I decided upon the 4Health Mature Adult. I usually feed fish based, but their salmon formula was too high in fat for my pancreatitis dog. The bag I bought was lamb based, which they have had before and did fine. By day #2, I had 4 VERY ill dogs. Diarrhea which soon became explosive to where they could not control it, then very bloody with a lot of mucous. Was eventually just the blood and mucous coming out. Also, vomiting, severe itching, and coughing. My vet was very concerned with it being a Diamond brand, with all 4 being so sick, about the possibility of aflotoxin. Labs were ok regarding systems that would be affected by this, so that was ruled out. But, it did appear to be an illness from the food. Penicillin and Flagyl really helped. I had to fast them for going on 3 days before they could even do hamburger and rice. I have substituted in different food with them before without any problem. This was not a normal “gi upset because you messed with our diet”. I walk them on a leash outside, so they did not get into anything. Trashcans are sealed. There was absolutely nothing we could come up with other than I had a bad bag of food. Of note, I also became ill. I truly thought all my dogs were going to die and was sickened over the idea that i felt it was my fault. When I saw the recall on Friday, it truly made me ill. I knew right then that there was going to be more to the story. The exp. dates are Jan. on the recall. They weren’t just made. Someone correct me if I am wrong in that a 4Health Lamb and rice formula would have been made in the same place as the Naturals Lamb and Rice.
My dogs, all 20 rescues and many senior dogs, eat Beyond and they have no problems. I often pick up Beyond mix it with Taste of the Wild (Lamb), Diamond Natural (Lamb), and Pro-Plan. Never have an issue changing dog foods. I don’t know how people have such fussy dogs. Mine eat anything and everything … fruit, vegetables, raw meat, kibble, chicken feet. They will not eat Tractor Supply 4 Life and that is the only dog food they’ve refused to eat.

Diamond Naturals Large Breed Puppy Dog Food ..
My daughter has a "Great Dane" which is 9 months old and has been on Diamond brand dog food since she was old enough to eat it. Never had any issues with this brand until now. On August 29, 2015 my daughter purchased a new bag of Diamond Naturals "Large Breed Puppy" food from Tractor Supply in Rock Hill SC. The same day we fed the dog, within 2 hours she developed diarrhea. The diarrhea persisted, she would not drink water and we became concerned. We did not feed her anymore of the Diamond food and started feeding her chicken and rice which helped control her bowels but did not stop the diarrhea and bloody stools. The issue of diarrhea associated with Diamond Naturals is more complex than previous reviewers have reported. We have been feeding our 5 1/2 Y/O chocolate Lab Diamond Naturals Lamb and Rice for several years. Always bought from a farm feed dealer in Boerne Texas whose knowledge of feeds is extensive. Never any problems. A few weeks ago we purchased the same dog food - Diamond Naturals Lamb and Rice from a Tractor Supply dealer in Granville NY (upstate). The dog developed diarrhea on the Diamond, cleared off it, then developed diarrhea again when we put her back on. Now she is on a different brand. I suggest that it is not the particular dog food which is making the trouble, but rather that there is a problem with a particular feed mill producing feed for some parts of the country.
