Thanks to all for the replies. I knew that Kimpton hotels in particular are super dog-friendly--hence the concern about lots of dogs staying there, with humans, of course:-), but that's a good point about even Kimptons having some dog rooms/floors and other no-dog rooms. But with my luck, I'd get a room right above or below a barking-dog room. I'll definitely check into the allergy-friendly options some hotels have. I've visited the websites for quite a few of the top-rated (but not super-expensive, e.g., NOT the Four Seasons) hotels recommended on TA, and so far not a single one has a no-pets policy (whereas in most U.S. big cities, MOST hotels don't allow pets, even though of course they allow service animals). But a couple of Seattle hotels I've browsed do have special rooms for folks with allergies, so I'll check out a few other hotels about that option and also keep trying to find a nice one that doesn't stress how dog-friendly they are.
I agree, just call the hotels. I've been to one Seattle hotel that allowed dogs (the Watertown). Haven't seen a dog in any other. Narrow down your list of hotels and phone them. That's likely the quickest way. My wife has allergies, especially to cats (though we do have both cats and dogs), and have not had trouble in this regard in any hotel we've been in. I'm guessing that if you got a suite at the Four Seasons, you'd have no problem. Seriously, I regularly phone hotels I'm considering staying at to ask various questions
