Iams Sensitive Naturals Dog Food | Review and Rating
I have a Sheltie (Shetland Sheepdog - they look like a small Collie). She was the runt of the litter and PROBABLY came from a backyard breeder (my ex bought her - I would have opted for a pound puppy, though I dearly love Charlotte, but that is a matter for another forum!), as she has always had sensitive digestion and was a daily vomiter for a long time despite being fed "prescription" foods and being vet-checked. She also showed signs of allergy as she was a pretty itchy doggie, and always gnawed at her own feet. My vet explained that Shelties are genetically predisposed to a skin condition that causes their ears, noses and tails to lose circulation and dry up - and sometimes they need surgery to repair these parts! The vet mentioned that some dogs do well on diets that do not include ruminants or wheat products. Anyway, I found Iams Sensitive Naturals Ocean Fish & Rice and decided to give it a try. It smells really awful, but Charlotte really likes it and took to it immediately. She still vomits, but it's much less frequently, and her coat is not itching, nor is she biting at her claws constantly - and her nose, tail and ears are stable and not drying out. Her stool volume is pretty huge, and I'm only feeding her the recommended amount for her size (between 1.5 - 2 cups per day), but that's why I have a fenced yard! She is doing very well on this diet, so I hope they DON'T change the formula again, and I don't mind buying it in smaller bags - hopefully that keeps it fresher! Thanks for reading my long review.I have an 8 year old St. Bernard. Have been feeding Iams for the past 6 years. 2 months now my dog has had major skin issues, hives, redness on her belly, swelling and itching. Also hot spots have come up. Vet has tried antibiotics and they haven’t worked. I have gone off the kibble and started an elimination diet of sweetpotato and fish. Now planning on switching dog food. Looking for skin sensitive food with low protein as my dog is not an active breed we don’t require high protein.
