Judging by its ingredients alone, Purina One SmartBlend looks like an average canned dog food.
DO NOT FEED YOUR DOG THIS PORDUCT. Recently I was on Facebook and Purina One was claiming to use high quality ingredients. When I called them out on using cheap fillers like poultry by-product, Brewers rice, and corn. They deleted my comment for speaking the truth. If they can’t handle a little bad criticism about their low quality dog food, they can’t be trusted.
Well, to begin with she is a pit bull mix and has always has some sort of minor skin irritation as is prone with pit bulls. We have tried almost every available limited ingredient diet, problem is most of these contain potato which in a process of illimination I believe she has an allergy to. I have tried high end no grain brands with various proteins such as kangaroo with little luck. Our vet suggested a vegetarian diet so she was even switched to a dry vegitariain blend which was extremely expensive. Normally she is fed a brand called Actrium Holistic which she is ok on but not perfect. When purina came out with this grain free version and price comparison was on the higher end, I made a poor decision is assuming some quality control and ingredients were being used. Wow as I wrong! So be forewarned if your dog starts getting itchy red scales and scabs or starts losing fur get them off this food.

My cat has never had skin problems and my cat and dog eat Purina food. My dog would sometimes eat Mousey's food. Scabs were on both. Dog I have made sure has not eaten Purina indoor cat food and skin problems stopped. Mousey's haven't. Has there been any changes in ingredients in last 6 months? I gave him taste of the Wild and he has not scratched today hardly any. Used this product ten yrs. I'm taking him to the vet again and he is 11 and worried giving ** to him. ** isn't working either. I haven't changed detergents, anything. I'm gonna really upset if I find out if it's different ingredients and my baby boy has suffered for months. I'm taking samples of the scabs stuck on skin and hair tomorrow and the lady that opened the bag of Purina hairball food and moths... yes infested with moths!!! I'm highly disgusted. I've paid so much money in Purina, I should have blue chip stocks. I want answers.I have had a terrible time trying to get my three pit bulls to eat kibbled food. I have tried everything from Call of the Wild to Kibble ‘n Bits. Even when mixed with venison, beef or chicken – they will not finish the kibble. Purina One True Instinct is the only food my dogs will eat without the addition of meat. They love it. I am not happy that this food only has 2 stars, and am worried about a few of the ingredients, but will continue to feed as long as they continue to eat it.Purina One Smart Blend Dog Food - My 3 medium size dogs were switched to the Chicken & Rice Formula 3 months ago from a more expensive brand that I had been buying. They seemed to adjust okay until this last bag which I've been purchasing at Walmart. The bag appears to be lighter in weight and noticed large sponge like morsels. My dogs are now refusing it to eat it, I figured maybe they were just not hungry enough so I'd save it for the next go around. Then I noticed that my dogs are not acting as spunky, shaky and having diarrhea. When I called the number listed on the bag and ask if they changed something in the ingredients they denied any change and said that the food is 100% nutritious if they ate it all. After reading all the negative reviews I am definitely getting them off this food.Actually I am reading the Purina Dog Chow label right now! Top 5 ingredients are Whole grain corn Chicken By Product Meal Corn Gluten Meal Animal Fat Soybean Meal Further down the label, it says Chicken. Which is a real meat. Chicken byproduct meal has items like natural glucosimine and condroiton for the dog skeletal system. The by products used are Not necessarily from the manufacturing of human foods that are unsuitable for human consumption. Go and do some research about what exactly is in chicken by products. It includes chicken feet, bones, all which are cooked up into a slurry which is quite nutritious,, not for you, but for a dog! For that I paid 55 cents a pound and for my Nutro which my dog also likes, I pay $4.00 per pound. I was feeding Royal Canin which used chicken by products in all their foods. It has the cartilage which is great for dogs.
