When we got him home and to his first vet visit we found out he had a bunch of issues, worms, diarrhea, ear infections, yeast, dry skin and constant itching. He was on Purina puppy chow, the crap the adoption agency was getting donated to them. So we started his treatments and I switched him to a better food within days. Gradually going to blue buffalo. Once the worms were gone I started trying to tackle the other issues. After doing a substantial amount of research I realized he likey had some sort of food allergy. So at about 1 year I switched him to bb grain free as grain seems to be the most common food allergy for dogs. He responded well to the grain free diet, less loose stools, dry skin and itching stopped and his ears stopped developing yeast. All was well for a few months until he started getting bored with the food. After talking with some other hound owners they said that’s common with hounds so I started looking for a new food that had some more grain free varietys that would keep him interested. Then I came across Wellness core grain free brand. Turns out my hound likes the wild game and ocean formulas, go figure… switched his food over and he’s been on wellness since. Now he’s a little over 2 years old and weighs about 95lbs. With not an inch of fat on his body. He eats all his meals and out grew his parents by about 1/3 their size. I either got the pick of the litter or just fed him right. Guess I’ll never know which for sure, but I think it’s the healthy diet.
